a storm, A wedding, The Doctor and a very big fish.
Cooking up a storm, a ray of sunshine wedding, magic meals and our Doctor is calling!

Hi wine lovers!

Welcome to our kiwi mid winter edition, but panic not those readers in the Northern Hemisphere we have some great summer food recipes for you to get your teeth into as you hang out at the beach or holiday resort.
We are looking forward to the influx of emails from those who have tried our wines in the holiday resorts of Florida, California and Montana in the USA and of course those consoling themselves while still doing the hard yards in the office or at home- not on holiday.

Tell us a story
If you have recently enjoyed a bottle of our wine please send us an email we would love to hear from you. We do post the comments - read some of them here. Sometimes people send recipes of meals they've enjoyed with our wines. Click here to read a recipe from one of our readers who has three fishermen in the family- Thank you Tom, Anthony and little Charlie for the fish and Barbara for sending it in! (The recipe not the fish- silly!)

Olympics- how could we not?
As a small nod towards the worlds elite sportsmen and women competing in Beijing we have a recipe of a great Beef dish our friends from China sent us- plus photos of our wines gracing the bar at Dalian City's newest wine bar "The New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc Bar". Click here to see photo's - For those kiwi's expecting to travel to Dalian City please drop by, you will be able to get a decent glass of kiwi red or white wine and have a snack on some Kapiti Cheeses to boot!.

Magic Meals
We have recently enjoyed some special meals at many of our New Zealand restaurant customers - some highlights include
  • Paua Ravioli at Logan Browns in Wellington- paired with EC2 2006
  • The sublime Tapas platter to share at Copita Eatery & Bar in Wellington - paired with EC2 2007
  • Lamb Rump at Bistro Breton in Kelburn Villas, Wellington -paired with Miro Merlot 2006
  • Vension Fillet at Gusto In New Plymouth - paired with the Doctor 2006
  • Duck Confit with Kumara at Toto in Auckland -with our Reserve 2005
  • Also at Toto try their fantastic "4 tastes from the Chef" platter- the vegetarian version is a must ! Yes I cannot believe I wrote that line either but that certainly show's you how good it is!

So save some electricity at home and get out to one of your local restaurants this week for a decent feed. Remember one day it could be your son or daughter slogging it out in the kitchen doing the dishes to pay for Uni !

The greening of the wine world.
As part of our effort to move to a zero waste winery we are a member of the Glass packaging forum. This initiative comes from users of glass across a number of industries and Hatton Estate Winery is a founder member. The forum has been coming up with innovative ways to collect and recycle glass bottles and has recently joined forces with NZ's pre-eminant rapper Che Fu to help promote glass recycling amongst the younger generation. Click here to read about this initiative and hear the various Raps from the schoolkids involved.

A wedding !
We were very honoured to be invited over the New Plymouth wedding of the year - the nuptials of Rowan and Natasha of Waiau Estate and Gusto in New Plymouth. What a spectacular wedding in a beautiful setting with a wild storm as a backdrop - unsurprisingly the party venue was Gusto after the ceremony, complete with rock band and copious quantities of great food and wine. Luckily they do such a substantial and restorative breakfast there to dispel any general shabbiness the next day. Check back for photo's !

No we are not medically trained...
Our Doctor Syrah is such a special wine we take a lot of care in the winery with the barrels of young wine and the library stock bottles we have in storage resting peacefully. There often comes a time when you have exhausted your cellar  supplies and can't get hold of more of that special wine even direct from the winery, a tough one we know well.

Now and then we get an email which inspires us to open an older vintage of our wine and have another look at it- see how it is progressing.

The Doctor 05 was one such wine based upon the following recent missive from a Doctor (no less) in Masterton regarding our Syrah.

Quote: " Dr 2005 will never make old bones in my cellar too bloody nice - just a stunning indulgence- please send more"

We whole heartedly agree and accordingly have released 10 x 6 packs of the 2004 and 2005 The Doctor Syrah from our library stocks to help out your cellar. See the deals below:
