Wolterton Hall tasting Norwich

One of the joys of a wine tour is that one gets to visit places a little off the general tourist trail.

One such place was the Weavers Way Wine tasting at Wolterton Hall, in Norfolk, about 20 minutes (or 35. quid by cab from Norwich).

Down one car wide country lanes high with hedgerows we snaked across the countryside finally arriving at the country home built in the 1720s for Horatio Walpole: politician, diplomat  and younger brother to Britain's first Prime Minister - Sir Robert Walpole, the UKs first "first minister" - or prime minister who served 1721 to 1742.

An impressive structure now presided over by the current Lord Walpole who inherited it in 1989; his brother Horatio has a similar one down the road, as you do in these parts.

I had lots of fun in this impressive old structure - meeting many cool people, including the wonderful Robert Foyers from Suffolk who's deli serves Tahi and will also be stocking EC2 shortly, and also some other great people who will soon serve EC2 and Tahi to the guests of their lodge.

As the day wore on the Hatton table became a favourite stopping off point for many including Roger, who ended up having to walk home and Lynn who we met up with later in the Walpole.

The tasting was well attended, and all the wineries and suppliers showing wine on the day retired to the Walpole Arms for a well earned pint of best Widdle or whatever - I have no idea what it was, and a delicious meal with of course the odd bottle of vino snaffled from the show earlier.

A shabby ride back to London the following day on the train through England's green and pleasant land completed what amounted to a day of from trudging the streets. Result!

Home soon to check on the naughty team I left behind in the office in Hastings. If you have any news on what they have been doing while I have been away please send me an email to fill me in. Confidentiality assured.
