Hatton Estate. 2000 Tahi Gimblett Road Hawke's Bay
A blend of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot and 17% cabernet franc: Ruby red. Dark berries, tobacco leaf and sassafras on the nose.
Ripe, juicy and intense, with bright flavors of dark cherry, tobacco, leather and spices, nicely framed by firm acids.
A distinctly claret-like wine, finishing with firm but fine tannins and hints of minerals and liquorice.
One of the top Bordeaux blends I've tasted from New Zealand in recent years. 89.
Also tasted: 2004 Chardonnay EC2 Gimblett Road Hawke's Bay. (Robert Bath Imports, St. Helena, CA)
