Colour: Plush crimson.
Aroma: Bright ripe aromatic berry fruits, fresh red fruit with subtle oak complexity.
Palate: A bright and fresh sweet fruit experience with a touch of oak and spice. Ripe tannins, and a soft relaxed almost languid mid palate belies the bright fruit on attack. There is plenty of fruit and integrated oak for complexity and a typically long finish from the Hatton Estate wine making team.
Winemaker’s notes: Beautiful ripe handpicked fruit from an old Havelock Hills vineyard cropped at 1 bunch per shoot less than 800g per vine. Cold soak for 10 days prior to fermentation beginning. Hand plunging and gentle delastage during fermentation. Soft tannin extraction and careful oxygen management allowed us to capture the full essence of the exciting brightness and freshness of the aromas and flavours.
Food match: Try The Intern Syrah with great friends over a memorable meal.
Cellar potential: 4 to 5 years from harvest.
