UK debut for Hatton Estate

Press Release 09 Oct 2002

New Zealand wine debuts at over 100 dollars per bottle.

Hatton Estate a small family vineyard and winery in Gimblett Road- the heart of the famous Gimblett Gravels region in Hawkes Bay -has just secured its first export order to the UK.

“The British fine wine buyer has always been a major goal for us; they have very discerning palettes and are wonderfully passionate about wine- just like us” said co-owner and Chief Viticulturalist John Rees.

“Retailing in the UK at $125 for Tahi and $40-00 for EC2, we are ecstatic with the response from such a competitive and knowledgeable market place” Michael Daymond-King co-owner responsible for sales and marketing.

Hatton Estate makes two wines; Tahi, a Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc; and EC2 an unoaked Chardonnay named after the City of London’s postcode- both of which are exported to the UK.

The recently released 1998 Tahi is available for New Zealand connoisseurs-via mail or email order and selected fine wine outlets - EC2 is sold out.

Tahi is a serious wine for the serious wine connoisseur. Aged in new French and American oak barriques for up to 18 months then bottle aged in a temperature-controlled environment for another 18 months makes Tahi ready to drink upon release.
“We realise that many people don’t have facility or the patience to age wine until it is ready to enjoy. We take the time and temptation out of it for you“ says Daymond-King, noting that the 1998 Tahi is drinking well now and will continue to do so until at least 2007.

Hatton Estate plans to release a small quantity of the next vintage of 2003 EC2 in New Zealand about the same time the 2000 Tahi will be allowed out of the Hatton Estate cellar.
